Centrifugal Forces
refer to the forces that tend to divide a country (religious, linguistic, ethnic, and idealogical differences) 
centripital forces
forces that unite or bond a country together (strong national culture, common religion, shared ideological beliefs)
Devolution
a region in a state that gains and demands political strength— aka forces within a region that are divided
3 examples of devolution
Basque Region; Nothern Ireland, Whales, and Northern UK; Yugoslavia
Irridentism
A policy of cultural extension and political expansion aimed at a national group living in neighboring country.
complementarity

two places through an exchange of goods can specifically satisfy each others’s demands.

transferability
the prescence of a nearer source of supply or opportunity that acts to diminish the attractiveness of more distant sources and sites.
Europe’s geographic advantages and relative location
basically a peninsula, so surrounded by water for easy water travel. also, in the center of “rich” areas, so easy shit they need. etc.

London- market place- ppl (workers, consumers, resources, etc).

Developed an urban Europe – 61% of ppl live in city (1900s).

Supranationalism

a venture(treaty/agreement) involving 3 or more states.

started in europe 1944 benelux agreement, an economic union btwn belgium, netherlands, and luxembourg.

political, economic, and or cultural coopoeration to promote shared objectives.

EU

European Union.

The EU was set up in the aftermath of World War Two to bring peace, stability and prosperity to Europe

 

Nation state
A political unit consisting of an autonomous state inhabited predominantly by a people sharing a common culture, history, etc.
